Week 2 so far.

This week i've planned all of the maths lessons
We are doing:

  1. Ordinal Number
  2. Counting Coins
  3. Rounding numbers
  4. & a lesson of rotations of open ended questions based on what we have learnt this week.
(I only planned 4 lessons because of the athletics carnival on Tuesday).

My first lesson on ordinal number didn't go as well as i thought it would.
I just assumed all the students would understand the concept quite quickly, but this wasn't the case at all. I'll never assume anything ever again. haha.

So my first maths lesson was a bit of a flop, but my second lesson on counting coins went a lot better. As i said to my students, 'a lot of you are going to be very rich one day' they were very engaged in the lesson and understood the concepts quite quickly.

I'm hoping my next two lessons are an improvement to my last two (especially the first).

I've also planned the literacy blocks in the morning. Quite basic. 10 minutes or silent reading, 10 minutes of paired reading and then either 20 minutes of handwriting or journal writing and then the rest of the morning focuses on narratives.

  1. Off to a good start Bridget...it sounds like you are very active in this prac with both planning and presenting lessons. I look forward to reading your reflections on the success (or otherwise) of your activities.
